All Star Sprint Race Results - Brownstown (IN) Speedway - Wed 6/2/99
By Scott Hall
BROWNSTOWN, IN - Kelly Kinser captured his second All Star sprint
car win of the season Wednesday night in the 40-lap feature at
Brownstown Speedway. Kinser, aboard the familiar Kinser Timber No.
4K, started third and took over the lead from Joey Saldana on lap
five to lead the rest of the 10-mile run. Kinser’s Gaerte-Chevrolet
powered Stealth was riding aboard McCreary tires. The event marked
the return to Brownstown by the All Stars for the first time since
September, 1997 when Jeff Shepard visited victory lane here. KSE
Racing Products Rookie of the Year contender Brian Ellenberger
started on the ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment Hot Seat pole
position with Saldana alongside in the Steve Mox-owned Stealth.
Ellenberger spun his Top Gun Racing machine in turn two on the
initial start, but luckily the whole field missed the spinning
number 20. Saldana took the lead on the next attempt at a start on
the beautifully prepared fairgrounds oval, leading the first four
laps, with Kinser on his tail, until Kinser moved by to lead lap
five. Meanwhile, the best racing of the event was for the fifth
through seventh spot where Danny Smith and Kenny and Dean Jacobs
swapped those places many times, with all three using every inch of
the quarter mile surface, running two and three wide for most of the
race. As Kinser led, Mark Keegan, who started third in Chuck
Steinbrick’s J&J, was trailing in second, just ahead of
Saldana. On a late race restart, Saldana got by Keegan for the
runner-up spot and made a charge at Kinser, but Kinser was able to
hold off Saldana at the checkered. Back in the pack, Kasey Kahne was
putting on the best passing performance of the night. Kahne started
14th and charged past Dean and Kenny Jacobs in the closing laps to
record fourth at the finish behind Kinser, Saldana and Keegan. Dean
Jacobs held on for fifth in the Junior Holbrook Eagle, with Smith
sixth in Denny Ashworth’s Schnee. All Star points leader Kenny
Jacobs finished seventh, earning the "Team Simpson Racing Lucky
Seven" award in the Jacobs Motorsports Kriner-powered Eagle.
Californian Brad Furr started 16th and ended up eighth with Rodney
Duncan ninth in the Harrison Trucking machine. Jerrod Hull started
15th and had worked his way up to fifth by the midway point of the
race. Following a mid-race restart, his tires sealed over,
relegating him to tenth at the finish.
The United Expressline heat fell to Dean Jacobs, the Southwest
Expressline heat to Furr, the Southwest Glass heat was won by Greg
Wilson and the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash fell to Mark
Keegan. Paul McMahan was the Red Devil Brakes fast qualifier with a
new track record of 12.454 seconds. Time Trials: 1. Paul McMahan,
