All Star Sprint Race Results - Kokomo (IN) Speedway - Sun. 6/6/99 By

KOKOMO, IN - Byron Reed finally got the money off his back and
recorded his first career All Star sprint car feature Sunday night
at Evans’ Kokomo Speedway. The victory was worth $5,000.
"I’ve won USAC races," Reed recalled, standing by his
B&S Racing, Kistler-Chevy powered Maxim. "But to win
against these guys really means a lot." For the 40-lap A Main,
Reed started fourth in the 24 car field and passed early leader
Frankie Kerr on a fourth lap restart to take command. Kerr started
on the ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment Hot Seat pole position and
led until Kasey Kahne spun in turn three for the race’s first
caution. Reed rode the rim on the tight quarter mile around Kerr to
lead over Kerr, Kelly Kinser, Joey Saldana and Kenny Jacobs. Lap six
saw a red flag unfurled for hometown driver Boston Reid, who flipped
on the backstretch. Reid was not injured in the incident, but his
Dr. Gale Kreppel No. 9 was done for the evening. Reed led on the
restart ahead of Kerr, Kinser, Saldana, K. Jacobs and Mark Keegan.
Dean Jacobs, who started ninth, was now up to seventh and making a
move forward. He moved to sixth ahead of Randy Kinser and began to
pressure his brother Kenny for fifth. After making the pass of his
brother, Dean challenged Saldana for the fourth spot. On lap15, the
pair made contact on the backstretch, with Dean making the pass and
Saldana spinning. Meanwhile, two laps earlier, K. Kinser ducked
under Kerr using the inside groove in turn one to snare second. This
left the restart order behind the high groove flying Reed as Kinser,
Kerr, D. Jacobs, Keegan, K. Jacobs and Rodney Duncan in the Harrison
Trucking No. 22. Reed again lead on the restart, having a lapped car
between himself and Kinser. But Kinser ducked under Reed inside turn
two to take over the lead. Reed, however, regained his leader spot
when the pair entered lapped traffic, and the race was his. Dean
Jacobs ended up second in the Jr. Holbrook Motorsports Eagle after
passing Kinser. "All in all, that was a lotta fun," Jacobs
exclaimed afterward. Kinser ended up third in the Kinser Timber
Stealth, relating, "I think I was a touch faster. I hit the
water on the bottom of the track and it slowed me down." Kerr
held on for fourth in Stan Shoff’s J&J, with 14th starter
Duncan fifth and Keegan sixth. Tony Elliott finished seventh, ahead
of Danny Smith, Kenny Jacobs and Saldana.
The United Expressline heat fell to Boston Reid, the Southwest
Expressline heat to Danny Smith, the Southwest Glass heat was won by
Reed and the United Specialties heat went to Brian Ellenberger. K.
Kinser won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash with Dean Jacobs
the United Expressline B Main winner. K. Jacobs was the Red Devil
Brakes fast qualifier over the 34 car field.
