All Star Sprint Results - Attica Raceway Park
By Scott Hall
ATTICA, OH - Seventeenth starting Kelly Kinser ran down Kenny
Jacobs with two laps remaining Wednesday night at Attica Raceway
Park to win the All Star sprint 40-lap feature. The second win of
the season for Kinser was worth $5,000 for the 11th annual Brad Doty
Classic. The event was broadcast live over the internet on RSBN.net
and Kinser became the 11th different Doty Classic winner in 11
years. KOT Trucking put up $500 for the driver passing the most cars
in the A Main, and this also went to Kinser. "I thought if I
could get up to seventh or eighth I'd be pretty tickled,"
Kinser replied when asked if he thought he had a chance to win
tonight. "I really struggled for a long time, but I had my car
just right. I'd have never dreamed we'd win it. We finally got one
at Attica tonight." Kinser's winning machine is the Kinser
Timber Stealth chassis with Gaerte-Chevrolet power and rode on
American Racer tires. Kevin Huntley started on the ButlerBuilt Hot
Seat pole with Jacobs alongside. Jacobs pushed his Jacobs-Honecker
Motorsports Eagle to a nice lead in the high groove, with Huntley
second and Rodney Duncan third. Duncan took over second on lap five
before David Harrison spun out of sixth spot on lap six for the
first yellow flag. Jacobs led again over Duncan, Huntley and Todd
Gracey as the battle for second heated up. Lap 10 saw it three wide
for second among Duncan, Huntley and Gracey, with Duncan keeping the
spot as the trio fought fiercely for the runner-up spot. With 15
laps down, Kinser began making his move in the bottom groove and was
up to eighth. Huntley took second from Duncan on lap 18, and
actually got beside Jacobs on lap 21 with a slide job pass try for
the lead. Jacobs repelled his advance and pulled out to a one car
length advantage as Gracey, Duncan and Huntley fought for second.
Gracey finally took over second in the bottom groove and was reeling
in Jacobs when disaster struck. Gracey got sideways in turn three on
lap 27, and Jeff Shepard, who had just joined the battle for second
after starting 14th, bumped wheels with Gracey, sending Gracey
spinning. Shepard kept going and Kinser dove into the infield to
avoid the mess. The restart lineup was Jacobs, Duncan, Shepard,
Huntley and Kinser. Duncan and Shepard battled for second behind
Jacobs once the race restarted. Shepard took over second and Kinser
was up to third on lap 31. Duncan took back second with Kinser third
as Shepard began to fade when the final caution appeared on lap 35.
It was now a five lap run to the finish. Jacobs jumped out in the
high groove when the green dropped, and Kinser moved under Duncan
for second. He got to within a car length on lap 37 and dove under
Jacobs in turn four as the pair passed side-by-side on lap 38, with
Kinser keeping the lead into turn one, and the race was his. Jacobs
tried to go extra high on lap 39 to regain some ground, but Kinser
pulled away to win by six car lengths. "He passed me so fast I
didn't even know he was there," Jacobs said of Kinser.
"When he went by I knew it was over. There was no catching
him." Duncan held on for third and Huntley in fourth earned the
TW Metals $100 nightly bonus. "Kelly is unbelievable at doing
what he does. I have no idea how he does it," Duncan recalled
afterward. "I just wish he wouldn't make it look so easy when
he passes us," the pilot of the Harrison Trucking No. 22
concluded. Phil Gressman was fifth, followed by Chad Kemenah. Eric
Hysong finished seventh, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven
award. Jerrod Hull, John Ivy and Byron Reed filled in the top ten.
The $100-to-win L&L Pavement heats went to Jerrod Hull, Chad
Kemenah, Kelly Kinser and Greg Wilson. John Ivy won the Georgia
Marketing & Promotions B Main. Gressman captured the Commercial
Truck & Trailer Dash and his fast time was worth $300 from
Ramsey Trucking. Recovering driver Rusty McClure was also on hand,
and reported he is back home and taking physical therapy two days a
week and is feeling great. He thanked the fans for all their cards
and letters. The 15 lap limited late model main fell to Bill Clapp
over John Mayes, Steve Sabo, Chris Smith and Bill Featheringill.
