Lincoln Speedway report
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA - Lance Dewease made it two-in-a-row Thursday
night at Lincoln Speedway in the All Star sprint 30-lap All Star vs.
NCRA Eastern Showdown. His dominating performance in the Harz Racing
J&J with a Don Ott engine came on American Racer tires by a full
straightaway over runner-up Sean Michael and Todd Shaffer.
"I heard the motor crackling the last five laps,"
Dewease recalled in victory lane. "We had a cylinder
dying." He then recalled his race strategy. "I thought I
showed my hand too soon on Todd (Shaffer). I got high by him on that
one start and I didn't know if he'd move out and he didn't. We were
able to run the top good at the end."
Shaffer started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole with Dean Jacobs
in position two, followed by Dewease, Johnny Mackison, Jr., Donnie
Kreitz, Jr. and Greg Hodnett. Shaffer jumped out to the immediate
lead as Jacobs brushed the outside wall in turn four and fell back
to third behind Shaffer, Dewease and Kreitz. It quickly became a
two-car race, with Shaffer leading Dewease as Kreitz faded back a
few lengths, but he began reeling in the leaders as they approached
lapped traffic by lap nine. As Dewease was poised to make a pass for
the lead, Gary Wright spun out in turn two for a lap 10 yellow flag.
On the restart, Brian Ellenberger ended up on top of Bobby Weaver's
car, with Aaron Berryhill stalling to miss the crash. This brought
out another caution.
Lap 11 saw yet another caution as Byron Reed and Mike Wagner
tangled and spun, with Danny Smith getting a flat as he grazed off
the accident.
With a dozen laps completed, Shaffer still led over Dewease, who
was applying heavy pressure to the leader. On lap 14 Dewease went
high to try a pass, but it did not stick. He tried to shoot low
under the leader on the front stretch a lap later, but Shaffer still
remained on top. Then Dewease made his move on the middle of the
backstretch to lead lap 16 and pull away to a convincing win.
Meanwhile, Michael, Kreitz and Cris Eash were having a battle
royale for the third spot. Johnny Mackison stopped on the track on
lap 23, and Dewease had a three lapped car advantage for the restart
over Michael, who took second just before the yellow appeared.
Shaffer was third, with Kreitz, Eash and Fred Rahmer next after
starting 14th.
Rahmer began picking off cars, and got past Kreitz on the last
circuit to come home fourth behind Dewease, Michael and Shaffer.
Kreitz was fifth and Eash sixth with Steve Siegel seventh, followed
by Jason Johnson, who started 11th, Chris Knopp and Jacobs.
"We just all have to do our homework because Lance has us
covered," runnerup Michael revealed. "We were good through
the middle be he was good up top."
Shaffer said of his third place run, "Sean and I raced out
butts off, but Lance made it easy, he ran off from us."
The K-T Equipment heat went to Jeff Rohrbaugh, the JB Enterprise
Racing Products heat to Kenny Jacobs, the Crown Battery heat to
Byron Reed and the Engler Machine & Tool heat went to Travis
Rilat. Brian Ellenberger won the B Main and Dean Jacobs captured the
Haulmark Dash.
