Fremont Speedway report 2001-09-08
FREMONT, OH - Butch Schroeder drove away from the field in
dominating fashion Saturday night at Fremont Speedway to win the All
Star sprint 40-lap feature. The Chuck Kear Memorial race paid $6,000
to Schroeder for his first All Star win of the season. It was also
manufacturer's night, with over $7,400 in parts given away to the
All Star drivers and $3,800 to the 305 sprint drivers.
"I love Fremont Speedway, and I love the All Stars,"
Schroeder proclaimed from victory lane, standing beside Stan
Courtad's Eagle chassis. "I can't say enough of Stan Courtad,
Scotty and the crew. My Kistler Engine ran smooth tonight and the
car drove so nice all night long. We learned something about our
American Racer tires last night. We put the right American Racer
tires on tonight and that was the difference."
Rob Chaney finished a half lap behind the winner in Jack Elden's
No. 22 and said, "I've got to thank Jack Elden for a great race
car. We've been fast but haven't been finishing many races, maybe
this will get us started tonight."
Kenny Jacobs ran third and credited his crew chief, "Aaron
Hammer works for me and he does a great job. We were a bit off after
the dash and he said 'don't worry about it, I'll get it right,' and
he did." Jacobs pulled to within 38 points of All Star points
leader Chad Kemenah with his third place finish.
Dean Jacobs started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole alongside
Chaney with Schroeder and Travis Rilat in row two. Todd Kane and
Kemenah started in row three. D. Jacobs took the initial lead over
Chaney and Schroeder. Rilat joined the battle for third and was able
to take that spot from Schroeder with a high groove move off turn
four on lap six. Meanwhile, up front, Chaney began challenging the
leader. D. Jacobs rode the high groove with Chaney using the lower
and middle grooves. They ran nose to tail for several laps and
Schroeder secured third again from Rilat.
Lap 13 was lucky for Schroeder as he ducked under Chaney for
second in lapped traffic. A lap later he repeated the move, going
under D. Jacobs to take the lead. D. Jacobs was now second and had
his hands full holding off Chaney. By lap 27, Chaney passed D.
Jacobs for the runner-up spot as Schroeder amassed a full
straightaway lead.
The only caution flew on lap 30 when 4th place D. Jacobs spun in
turn three for the second night in a row. Schroeder had an advantage
of seven lapped cars for the restart, and drove away easily to win
by half a lap at the end. K. Jacobs came on strong the last few laps
after starting eighth to finish third. Rodney Duncan started 12th
and came on the last five laps to get fourth with Rilat holding on
for fifth. Kemenah was sixth, in an Eagle Chassis for the second
night in a row. Greg Wilson finished seventh, winning the Team
Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award and the TW Metals nightly cash
bonus. Danny Smith, up from 23rd, David Harrison and Joe Gaerte
completed the top ten finishers.
The K-T Equipment heat went to Kemenah, the JB Enterprise Racing
Products heat to Mark Keegan, the Crown Battery heat to Byron Reed
and the Engler Machine & Tool heat fell to Kenny Jacobs and Todd
Kane won the B Main. Kemenah was the Kistler Engines fast time
winner with a 13.815 second lap and captured the Haulmark Dash.
