Lawrenceburg race report

All Star Sprint Results - Lawrenceburg Speedway - Sat. 9/15/01

LAWRENCEBURG, IN - Dean Jacobs was a half lap ahead when the checkered fell Saturday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway, dominating the All Star sprint 50-lap Hoosier Fall Classic feature. The win for Jacobs was worth $10,000 and came in front of a standing room only crowd over his brother Kenny and Kelly Kinser in a race that ran non-stop the last 49 laps.

"I had a beautiful race car, it was awesome. You generally can't get me to run five laps around the bottom let alone 50 - but the track was really nice tonight," Jacobs recalled, standing beside Rick Daugherty's Eagle chassis with Kistler power and Hoosier Tires. "The bottom was the place to be. I made a big mistake last week. I had a race won and spun out and my car owner deserves better than that," he added, referring to last week's Fremont event miscue.

Dean Jacobs started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole with Byron Reed alongside and Kinser and Jim Nier made up row two. Jacobs took the lead on lap one before a Mark Keegan flip brought out the red with a lap complete. Kevin Huntley was also involved in the accident and left on a wrecker, but returned for the restart. Reed was in second for the restart and kept right on the leader's tail, taking the lead with a high groove move to lead lap four. Jacobs ducked low under Reed in heavy lapped traffic to regain the top spot a pair of laps later. Reed kept the runner-up spot until K. Jacobs began challenging him with 14 laps in the books. K. Jacobs went high around Reed for second on lap 15 with Greg Wilson now fourth ahead of a good battle between Danny Smith and Kinser for fifth.

At the half way mark, D. Jacobs held a half lap lead over his brother, Reed, Kinser, Wilson, Smith and Nier. As the laps ticked down, D. Jacobs kept pulling away and lapped up to ninth place at the end. Lap 30 saw Kinser get around Wilson again to secure third for good, and he moved in on K. Jacobs, but could not make a pass of the red number 6. Wilson ended fourth with Rilat fifth after starting 13th. Smith was sixth and Reed finished seventh, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award and the $100 TW Metals nightly cash bonus. Rob Chaney, Nier and Joe Gaerte completed the top ten.

"Dean was way faster that everyone else," K. Jacobs said of his brother's win. With the finish, Kenny moved to within 15 points of Chad Kemenah in the All Star title chase.

Kelly Kinser ran third and said," I had more brake trouble tonight. The brakes were weak or we would have drove by him (Kenny) there, but I don't think I was gonna catch Dean." Kinser was dizzy after the race as he is recuperating from having a gallstone removed a week ago.

The K-T Equipment heat went to Dean Jacobs, the JB Enterprise Racing Products heat to Eric Hysong, the Crown Battery heat to Rob Chaney and the twin Engler Machine & Tool heats fell to Mark Keegan and Joe Gaerte. Curt Trainer won the Georgia Marketing & Promotions C Main and the B Main fell to Jim Nier. D. Jacobs also captured the Haulmark Dash. Kenny Jacobs' new track record of 10.121 seconds was worth $50, courtesy of Tri-State Outlook and $100 from Kriner Engines. The lap broke Mark Kinser's old mark of 10.428 set in 1995.

It was announced that the city of Lawrenceburg has approved $1.9 million in improvements for the facility for next year, including all new aluminum covered grandstands, concession stands and restrooms.
